Evangelina Padilla-Vaccaro was born with Bubble Boy Disease, also known as severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID), a genetic, uniformly lethal disease that causes babies to be born without functioning immune systems.

But today, thanks to stem cell research, Evangelina is cured.

She recently made an appearance at a launch event for Don Reed’s new book, “California Cures! How the California Stem Cell Program is Fighting Your Incurable Disease!” Watch as Alysia, Evie’s mother, updates us on how her daughter continues to lead a healthy and normal life.

See below as Evie’s parents, Alysia and Christian, as well as her twin sister thanking CIRM for its efforts.
